Radioserver FAQ

How do I broadcast? How does the streaming work?
We provided a short Video-Howto for you. In this it is briefly showed how to broadcast with the Nullsoft DSP Plugin and Winamp using a Shoutcast-Server:

Here the Howto as text version:

1. Open the page http://www.shoutcast.com at your browser.

2. Click ?Download/ Be a DJ? and download the ?Shoutcast Radio DSP plug-in?

3. Open the website: http://www.winamp.com and save the program ?Winamp? at your computer.

4. Install ?Winamp? and after successfully installing, the ?Shoutcast DSP plug-in?

5. Start ?Winamp? and click the above menue field with the right mouse button. Chose ?Options- Preferences?

6. Click the left menue field ?DSP/Effect?. Chose the ?Nullsoft Shoutcast Source DSP? and click ?close?

7. A plugin-window is open now. Do enter the access data ( host, port, stream password, etc. ) and the stream information under ?Yellowpages?

8. Chose now the adequate encoder and the transfer rate.

9. You are connected with the server by clicking ?connect? at the ?output? tab. Now select the music you want to transfer live to the server.

10. By entering the streamhost port at the web browser you get a status page at which you can see the current stream status. You may send the streamhost port or the direct link to the stream by listen.pls to your listeners. The stream may be reached with several players ( f. e. Windows Media Player, VLC Player, Winamp )

Which link do I have to give my friends so that they can listen to my radio?

http://Subdomain:Port/listen.pls Example: http://stream.t-n-media.de:9000/listen.pls Alternatively there are several other subdomains, which you have received in the e-mail with your access data.

How can I provide the radio stream with different qualities ( f. e. DSL and ISDN ) ?

You need at least two radio servers. At the first you broadcast in DSL quality ( f. e. 128 KB ) and at the second in ISDN quality ( f. e. 64 KB ). This setting is possible at the stream plug-in. Alternatively you may install a relay which is mirroring the first server on the second server. With this there is no possibility to provide different stream qualities. The stream is mirrored 1:1.

Why is the stream ticked for my listeners? They are not allowed to make downloads or be on a sharing network at the same time. Also no second computer should be on-line using the same net. A DSL 1000 access ( or better ) is recommended.

How can I make my stream usable for Windows Media Player or RealPlayer?

Do open a streamlink without /listen.pls in the MediaPlayer as ?URL open? F. e.: http:// stream.t-n-media.de:9000/listen.pls would be http://stream.t-n-media.9000 at the Mediaplayer.

Alternatively you have the possibility to compile a .asx file and to provide this at your own homepage. Proceed as explained: The ASX and RAM files are not accessible directly from the stream. But you can create your own .ASX file by creating a text file with the following content:

After that you save the file and name it stream.asx. Load this to your webspace and create a link at your own homepage to this. Now your listeners may listen to the file with the Mediaplayer using a direct link at your webspace.

Creating a .ram file: The same procedure as with the asx file, but fill in the following content: http://stream.t-n-media.de:9000/listen.pls Then save as stream.ram and load it to your website. The listeners can find the file with the browser or through the direct input in the RealPlayer. Please replace the Port 9000 and the sub-domain by yours.

How can I install a status page for the radio server to my website ( current song, listeners etc. )?

Follow this link ( here you find the required source code and a display example ): http://www.kription.com/scxml/recent.php

To make your own creation, all you have to do is handle the HTML-Code at the echo broadcast. PHP-knowledge is beneficial.

Is there a possibility to install a radio player to my website?

Yes, you may use the source text of the following website to install the player at your homepage. Take care to fill in the client's number at the marked field. You may also install the player as iFrame to your website. 1. Open the following website and follow the source text. 2. Open your website with a editor and copy the part of at the -area. 3. Replace the text ?client's number? by your client's number. 4. Fill in the link to the player 5. Save the document and load it to your webserver. The player should now be accessible through the installed link.
